Pantone Color of the Year 2025 - Mocha Mousse

The announcement for Pantone's color of the year was made on December 5th. I wait for this announcement every December, excited to find out. Why am I excited about the color of the year? Each year, I will create wedding sugar flowers and wedding cake designs that center around Pantone's color of the year. What is the significance of the color of the year? Pantone is a front leader in color design which expands into fashion, home interiors, and all things design. The color of the year acts as a global trend forecast, reflecting the current mood for influencing design, fashion, marketing, and consumer products across various industries. It encourages how color can be used to communicate and connect audiences in business. Each color chosen creates an emotional weight as Pantone selects a color that reflects the current societal mood. It inspires artists, designers, and individuals to explore new color palettes.

Last year, the color was Peach Fuzz, which is a perfect color for weddings. I was thrilled at the options to choose from for using this color in wedding cakes.

I created this cake for a styled shoot last year, with a peach theme. The flowers I created for this cake were mostly wafer paper flowers with gumpaste foliage. The peach was then transcended down the cake with a peach stenciled wedding park theme and then to the bottom tier, I created more texture with a peach and mauve bas relief design. This was my interpretation of Pantone's chosen color for 2024.

This year, I was a bit surprised by the color chosen, Mocha Mousse, which is a "rich brown hue with earthy refinement" as Pantone describes. I was so surprised that I went to Pantone's website and read on how they came to choosing this color. Now don't get me wrong, brown can be used in so many ways to create art. In all honesty, when I first read what the color was going to be for 2025, I was a bit disappointed and felt that it was a really boring color. However after reading up on why they chose it, I was enlightened. Hats off to Pantone for making even the blandest of colors sound so beautiful. Pantone's description of Mocha Mousse is "a warming brown hue, embedded with richness. It nurtures us with delectable qualities of chocolate and coffee, answering our desire for comfort." Now when you look at it that way, Mocha Mousse sounds sexy and soothing. Pantone further describes this color as thoughtful indulgence, harmonious comfort, and feelings of contentment.

One thing that I do love is that Pantone creates a color palette for each color of the year so you may expand on colors that are complimentary. Here you will see the color palette to go with Mocha Mousse. The color palette gives an expansion of the colors that you can add to assist with creating a harmonious design with Mocha Mousse. The colors add a beautiful earthy feel which gives me a relaxed, calming sentiment, creating inner peace.

So you see, Pantone's color of the year is exciting to look forward to, using the color to expand my artistic creations for relevance and modern designs. I'm already thinking of ways to use this color and the color palette for cake designs. For some shimmer, I'll be creating beautiful light bronze edible silk to wrap around my designs for flow and texture. Sugar flowers such as hydrangeas would look beautiful in earth tones, giving them a soft, romantic feel. Not only are these colors earth tones, they also radiate a metallic, monochromatic feel.

Looking forward to 2025 to creating beautiful wedding cake art in the Mocha Mousse color palette.
